The map lays lot lines over aerial photos. These boundaries are for tax purposes and show approximate lines only. If you need exact boundaries, hire a surveyor.

Portage County Property Value Appeals
If you believe your property value is wrong, Portage County offers two ways to contest it. The first is an informal review period. All available appointment times for informal reviews fill up each year, so act fast when the period opens. The appraisal department handles these reviews. The second option is a formal appeal. Property owners can file a formal complaint with the Board of Revision between January 2nd and March 31st. This process is free to file and is a right under Ohio law.

Homestead Exemption in Portage County
The Homestead Exemption removes up to $25,000 of market value from your tax bill. You qualify if you are 65 or older, or permanently disabled, and your Ohio Modified Adjusted Gross Income is under $40,000. You must own and occupy the home as your primary residence. The application deadline is December 31st each year.
The CAUV program is also available for farmland in Portage County. Land of ten or more acres used for commercial agriculture gets valued based on its farm use rather than its development potential. Smaller farms under ten acres can qualify if they produce at least $2,500 in average yearly gross income from agricultural products. Applications are renewed annually through the Auditor's office.
Note: Filing a false Homestead Exemption application is a fourth-degree misdemeanor that results in repayment of taxes plus a three-year ban.
